FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions and their applicable answers for all Artists, Vendors and Attendees.

How do I book an appointment with an artist?

1. Look on our ARTISTS PAGE and check out who's coming. From there... Contact the artist of your choice via their Instagram, Facebook or Shop Website page. Usually they respond but you must remember, these guys tattoo more than they email, so if you don't hear back, its totally normal. A lot of artists like to meet you at the show and book right there. An easy way to find the artists contact info is simply to google search their name with the word tattoo after it. For example: Oliver Peck Tattoo.

2. If the above fails... EMAIL US and we will help you get in touch with the artist you like but remember, they still may be very busy. Which leads us to the last and most sure fire way of getting an appointment...

3. COME TO THE SHOW! This is how 90% of tattoo appointments are set up. The artists love meeting you and working out your dream tattoo with you present. If they are busy thats ok and normal, you have over 400+ artists to choose from and these are the best artists in the world. You won't have a problem finding one that fits your vision.

How painful is getting a tattoo?

Everyone has a different pain threshold. Some people say it feels very mild, while others think it feels more painful. Every person handles it differently. There are creams that will numb the pain if you need it. They are lidocaine based and have been known to remove most of the pain if not all of it during the duration of your tattoo. If you would like to purchase some prior to your tattoo, let us know.

Is the Hawaii Tattoo Expo Family Friendly?

Absolutely! In fact we cater to families by offering a Keiki Zone for the kids to play that has painting, bouncy castles, magic and much more. Also, kids 12 and under are always FREE. We are all parents so it's important that we have a place that our children can also come and hang out at.

How safe is getting a tattoo at your expo?

Extremely safe! We have an excellent record with the Hawaii Department of Health and have had so year after year. Our artists ONLY use disposable needles and tubes which mean it is opened from the sterile package and used ONLY once on the client and then disposed of properly. We take all steps to ensure absolute safe handling at our show as well as inspiring safe practices beyond our show.

Will there be Food & Drinks at the expo?

Absolutely, and good food too! We realize that most people come and stay 4-6 hours so we are fully stocked with many different types of food to eat. You will be able to find soft drinks as well as beer & cocktails. We promote safe and responsible drinking so please bring a positive mindset as there are many kids and families enjoying this event.

How much does a tattoo at your expo cost?

Tattoos in general are pieces of art that will be on you for life. You can find deals at our expo as there are many artists working, however, most artists charge an hourly rate of $75 and up. Some of the more well known artists charge $150-200 per hour. Some artists will also just offer you a flat cost regardless of how fast or long it takes to finish the work. Its also very common and very respectful to tip your artist much like you would anywhere else. 15-20% is appreciated. Your 1st $25 is knocked off the total price for purchasing a ticket to our show and is recognized by most, but not all artists.

How much is parking? What other expenses can I expect?

Parking is usually anywhere from $5-$7. We have no control over this as the venue is in contract with a parking company who handles that. Other expenses to expect would be your ticket price of $25 per day but if you get your 3 day tickets you will end up saving money on the entire package. We are the most affordable expo in the world. Others charge $50-75 per day. Food & Beverages are another expense and of course your new tattoo and merchandise you may get from the artists or vendors. Enjoy!

How much are tickets usually?

We are the most affordable tattoo expo there is. If you go to see any show or concert on Oahu it starts at around $25-$35 for a few hours and can go up to $80 for 1 show. Other tattoo shows run $40-$75 per day. We are $25 per day or $65 for ALL 3 DAYS. Also, the price of your entry is deducted from your tattoo with participating artists. That means when you get a tattoo, your entry is FREE.

How long is each day?

Our days run around 10-12 hours per day. You are welcome to stay as long or as little as you like. We have many attractions that should keep you around awhile. Most people stay roughly 4-6 hours or longer. Below are our hours.
